Izun began in 2000 as Izun Pharmaceuticals Corporation to harness nature’s power through the use of modern science to identify and optimize bioactive compounds of plants. The Company was founded by Dr. William Levine, the director of the Perio Center, a foremost private healthcare facility specializing in treatment of periodontal disease. Dr. Levine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, is a featured lecturer at U.S. and international forums on periodontal disease. He received his DDS and Certificate of Periodontology from Columbia University in New York.

Early in the Company’s history, Dr. Levine and his research team developed a unique system using state-of-the-art technology to identify, analyze and test a broad range of bioactive compounds that exhibited exceptional wound-healing properties. As a result of this research, the team identified a natural plant-based platform containing a blend of Sambucus nigra, Echinacea purpurea, and Centella asiatica with a clearly defined mechanism of action that includes:

  • Reduction of inflammation by down-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines
  • Enhancement of tissue repair by up-regulating tissue repair mechanisms
  • Reduction of pathogenic bacterial levels

In June 2014, Izun Oral Care was spun-out as a separate company to focus on oral care applications for the Company’s bioactive technology.
